CapCut Eye Contact Correction: How to Use It, and Where It Falls Short
CapCut has AI eye contact correction built in, and it is free — which makes it the first thing most people try when they watch a take back and realise their eyes were on the script instead of the lens. It works. The real question is whether it works on your footage, on your machine, in your country.

How to turn on eye contact correction in CapCut
The setting lives in the clip's own properties rather than the effects library, which is exactly why people hunt for it and conclude it is missing.
- Open CapCut, create a project, and import your clip into the timeline.

- Open the Video tab and expand the Basic section.

There is nothing to tune
Beyond the toggle there are no settings. CapCut finds the eye region on its own and re-renders your gaze toward the lens; there is no intensity slider, no per-section override, and no way to apply it to one part of a clip but not another.
For most people that is a feature rather than a limitation — it is one switch and you are done. It becomes a problem only when the model overcorrects on a particular shot and you have no dial to back it off with. In that situation your options are to cut around the section or to take the clip somewhere with more control.
What CapCut gets right

- Processing is slow. The eye contact pass is one of CapCut's heavier operations, and on a longer clip it can take meaningfully longer than the rest of your edit put together.
- Availability is inconsistent. The feature has not rolled out uniformly across CapCut versions and regions, so two people on nominally the same version can see different options.
- There is no batch mode. Correction applies per clip inside a project, so a folder of twenty recordings means twenty manual passes.
- You are driving a whole editor. If all you wanted was to fix your eyes, you have opened a timeline, a media library and an export dialog to do it.
If the Eye Contact toggle is not there at all
This is the single most common CapCut eye contact question, and the answer is usually that the feature simply is not in your build. It has been rolled out unevenly across versions and regions rather than shipped to everyone at once, so its absence often has nothing to do with your settings.
Work through this list before concluding it is unavailable — the option is not always where the tutorials say it is, and it has moved between versions.
- Select a clip first. The Basic section only appears once a clip is highlighted in the timeline.
- Look beyond Video then Basic. Depending on your version it can sit under an AI tools, Enhance, Retouch or Correction group instead.
- Update to the latest version. The feature has shipped progressively, so older builds will not have it at all.
- Check your region and language settings. Some CapCut features are tied to these rather than to the version number alone.
- Try both desktop and mobile. Availability has differed between them, and public reports genuinely conflict about which gets features first.
- As a last resort, back up your projects and reinstall. It should not make a difference, but some users report the option appearing after a clean install.
When none of that works
If you have been through the whole list and the toggle still is not there, the feature is genuinely not available to your build and no amount of fiddling will change that. Waiting for a rollout is not a plan when you have a video to publish today.

- Light from the front and slightly above so your eyes stay visible, and angle glasses away from your key light — reflections that hide the eyes give the model nothing to work with.
- Put your script as close to the lens as possible. The less correction needed, the fewer artifacts you will see.
- Record at a constant frame rate where you can. Phones and screen recorders often produce variable frame rate footage, which some gaze tools reject outright.
- Check the result full screen before you publish, not as a thumbnail. Gaze artifacts are invisible small and obvious large.
When CapCut is the right choice
If you already edit in CapCut, your clips are short, you correct occasionally, and the toggle exists in your build — use it. Free and adequate beats paid and marginally better, and there is no honest argument for spending money on a problem you have already solved.
It is also the right call when eye contact is one step among many. If you are cutting, captioning and colour-grading in the same session anyway, doing the gaze pass in that same timeline is less friction than exporting to another tool and back.
